About Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association
Title
What is OCCRA?
OCCRA is a members club of off-road enthusiasts from the ages of 3 to 103. We race mini-quads, mini-bikes, dirt bikes and quads. We have classes for every age and skill level.
How do you operate?
The club is ran by member elected officers and a board of directors. These are all volunteer based positions. To become a member, you must pay the annual fee of $30 individual or $50 per family, then you are eligible to race and vote at the annual rules meeting. All members competing for year end awards are required to work at 1 event during the season. Volunteering is the key to the organization.
What it’s all about?
Competition, camaraderie, good friends, good times, camping out, hanging out. We have a motto that kind of says it all: “Friends, Family, Riding, and Racing!”
How much does it cost?
A yearly membership fee, $30 individual and $50 family plus a race entry fee for each race. Proceeds are used to pay for track supplies and expenses, mailings, season plaques, season jackets, and for the year-end banquet. If you’re interested in checking it out before you jump in, you can ride practice on the morning of your divisions race for $5 and spend the day meeting new friends. There’s no cost to camp out that night, or to watch the events the next day!

How the Season works.
There will be a set number of races in the series from March through October, with the summer months off. You will receive a series plaque after you have competed in 3 events. At each race you will earn a “place-tab” to apply to your series plaque, which will have a block for each series event. If you do well enough in your class, you will receive an award at the year-end awards banquet. (usually a monogrammed jacket) The top 5 places in the Pro divisions receive cash awards at each event.
How the weekend works.
Quad races are held on Saturday then the course is opened up for bike practice from 3pm until 6pm. Most tracks will also have a separate mini course. Sunday morning practice opens at 7am for a safety lap. OCCRA Church follows the morning riders meeting.
How the races work.
Adults are split into different Divisions such as A-Division(fast guys), B-Division (slower guys), and a Quad-Division . The A and B bike divisions rotate start times from race to race and will be noted on the website and race flier as to the order. Each adult race will have about 8 classes, grouped according to age or skill. You will line up with your class, and during the race, you’ll only be competing with your class, even though there will be other classes on the track as well.
The Race Director holds the “30 Seconds” board in the air. Then comes the “10 Seconds” board,
and when the green flag flies racers start their engines and the race starts. All classes start off 1 minute apart, so each class will get the 30 sec. 10sec and green flag start. The race is 1½ hours and racers try to make as many laps as possible during that time. you can. You may have to stop for gas as most courses are between 6 and 10 miles. When the race is within 10-15 minutes of the 1½ mark, the white flag will be shown in the scoring shoot and then a checkered flag will be shown once the race time is reached. About a half hour after the race, results will be posted by the scoring trailer so you can see how well you rate. Don’t forget to pick up your place-tabs.
What’s a “Transponder”?
A transponder is an electronic device used to score the races. They look about like a credit card and a new style being introduced is a round tube and each rider wears one in their helmet or on their riding gear. When you enter the scoring chute, the antenna will automatically read your transponder and enter your time into the computer. The transponder has a one-time use fee of $10 for the card and $25 for the new tube style. It lasts forever, and it’s yours to keep. But if you wish, you can redeem it at the end of the race or the end of the season for a refund.
Where do you race? ...and when?
All over Oklahoma, about twice each month. A complete schedule of dates and locations is available on the website at www.OCCRA.com. Load up your gear & we’ll see you at the races!
